According to a study conducted by researchers at the CNRS, a genetic anomaly would be at the origin of some cases of obesity. (News of the 08/01/02)
- A team of researchers published the results of a study on the causes of obesity in Nature magazine. They show that an anomaly of chromosome 16 would be at the origin.
- The absence of a party of this chromosome, called microdeletion, increases the risk of obesity by 5000% in the carriers.
- This incomplete chromosome accounts for 1% of common obesity cases in the 4 million people affected in France and 3% of overweight cases. This discovery could allow the care of the subjects concerned from an early age.
